Fighting Hunger, Not Filling Landfills

Every year, millions of pounds of good food go to waste. At Flagstaff Family Food Center, we believe there’s a better way to eliminate waste. Through our Farm Food and Kitchen Composting Program, we can divert food that cannot be distributed from ending up in landfills.

Farm Food Program

Last year, we were able to divert over 276,000 pounds through our Farm Food Program. If you are a local farm or community member who can use food for compost or animal feed, then you can pick up food scraps from our Warehouse

Instructions: Pickup available by appointment only and please bring your own container. If you can take bulk food pick-ups, please contact luke@hotfood.org.

Kitchen Composting Program

Do you compost at home? You can drop off your food scraps at our Kitchen instead! Through a partnership with The City of Flagstaff Sustainability Office, we provide free and convenient food scrape drop-off site for Flagstaff residents. This program seeks to divert food waste from the landfill to advance the City’s Rethink Waste Plan and Carbon Neutrality goals.

Bins are located on the west side of the building next to the garage door and are accessible at all times. Please only put food scraps in the bins, no non-food items or meat.
