Arizona Partnership for Healthy Communities

Neighbors Feeding Neighbors, Every Day

Summer meals just got easier to access — especially if you live in a rural area!

Kids and teens 18 & under can receive FREE summer meals with no paperwork or registration. Thanks to new legislation, rural communities across Arizona can now offer non-congregate meal pickup. This means families can grab several days' worth of meals at once, or have a parent pick up without the kids present.

A fun June Community Cooking Class recap 🎉🍅

This week, our own Chef Chris, showed everyone how to make salsas, marinades, and sauces! Participants learned how to use simple ingredients to create big, bold flavors, make simple substitutions, and get the most out of every ingredient to reduce waste. Everyone got to see how it works in the kitchen and try delicious chicken and/or tofu tacos with mango salsa!

Missed out? Don't worry — there's always next month! Classes are held every 3rd Monday at the Flagstaff Family Food Center Kitchen, with both in-person and Zoom options available. Register at bit.ly/NAZcookingclass. We can't wait to cook with you.

Food Truth Tuesday: The best solutions start by listening.

Through focus groups and conversations across Northern Arizona, community members shared their experiences with food insecurity and what truly makes a difference in their daily lives. Data tells part of the story — community voices tell the rest.

In FFFC's 2025 Northern Arizona Food Equity Report, three key themes emerged:
1️⃣ Access isn't just about food. Geography, transportation, work schedules, and long travel distances all shape whether someone can reliably access healthy food.
2️⃣ Choice matters. Being able to choose their own food gives people a sense of control, dignity, and respect while helping them meet their unique dietary and cultural needs.
3️⃣Health and affordability are deeply connected. Many community members are balancing chronic health conditions with tight budgets, making it difficult to choose foods that are both nutritious and affordable.

The truth is: addressing hunger means understanding the real-life challenges people face and building solutions alongside the communities we serve.
