Food Truth Tuesday: Healthy food is about more than nutrition—it's about access, choice, and dignity.

When people experience food insecurity, they aren't choosing between health and convenience—they're often choosing between what they can afford and what their health requires. Across Northern Arizona, community members shared how cost, chronic health conditions, and limited access to food shape their everyday decisions.

In FFFC's 2025 Northern Arizona Food Equity Report, three key truths emerged:
1️⃣Cost remains the biggest barrier to healthy eating. More than half (52.6%) of survey respondents said the cost of food is the greatest obstacle to accessing nutritious foods, even though maintaining their health is a top priority.
2️⃣Choice leads to better health outcomes. Giving people the ability to choose the foods that best fit their health, cultural, and household needs supports healthier eating while preserving dignity and recognizing the realities of rural communities.
3️⃣Health solutions must reflect the communities they serve. The majority of respondents reported that someone in their household is managing a diet-related health condition. Improving health outcomes means ensuring food assistance is culturally relevant, accessible, and responsive to the diverse communities across Northern Arizona.

The truth is: improving community health isn't just about providing food—it's about making healthy food affordable, accessible, and empowering people with the choice to meet their unique needs. Read the full 2025 Northern Arizona Food Equity Report at bit.ly/nazfer.
