Stephen George Saville was given a well-deserved pair of angel wings and called home to paradise on 7/12/2017.
With Steve’s almost 20 years of dedication to the the Flagstaff Family Food Center, as a Board Member, Board President, Executive Director, donor and volunteer, his passion and dedication are woven like a thread in a tapestry throughout our organization.
None of us can believe that your person, your oh-so-larger than life gregarious person, is no longer with us. Steve was ever conscious of his fellow man, his community and neighbors who meant so much to him. He who was always there for us workers, women and youth, artists, writers, journalists, business men, community leaders, academics, nature enthusiast; those who were needing a hand up not a handout, the most vulnerable in our community, and your many, many, many fellow Jimmy Buffett lovers.
You will be missed by, your community, your city, your family and by all those who you touched during your time at the Food Center.
Jill has asked that in lieu of any flowers, cards, meals, gifts, etc. that you please donate the money you would have spent on those items to the Flagstaff Family Food Center. Steve’s time running the food center was one of the most rewarding endeavors of his life. It was Steve’s passion to help those less fortunate and his memory would be best honored by supporting the facility that was so important to him. A link to do so is here
Meals ServedWe serve approximately 247,000 nutritious meals annually through of our food programs to Flagstaff families.
Food BoxesWe distribute nearly 20,000 food boxes to Flagstaff families which feeds almost 8,000 children between the ages 0-5 annually.
We receive approximately 1.16 million pounds of food from local grocery stores, restaurants and through private donations annually. The ability to rescue and redistribute this food means that we don't buy food to support our 8 hunger relief services.
Our reading room serves approximately 2,200 children annually. These kids, ranging in age from 0-18, visited the reading room more than 7,900 times. It was during these visits that they were giving some 5,399 books to take home and add to their personal libraries.
In this short video below, your friends and neighbors talk to you about the importance of working poor tax credit donations! These tax credits account for approximately half of the food center's annual income and make sure that we keep on feeding Flagstaff!
It's important to note how many children in Flagstaff depend upon the Flagstaff Family Food Center....
